Easy Halloween Yoga Poses for Busy Kids

11 Easy Halloween Yoga Poses for Busy Kids (+ Freebie)

If you are looking for easy Halloween yoga poses for kids with busy minds, you are in the right place. Many of you might know the traditional yoga poses, but today, let's shift our perspective to mindful movements. After all, yoga is a form of mindful movement. I will interchange “mindful movement” and “yoga” throughout this post.

This Halloween season, I've purposefully chosen 11 easy Halloween yoga poses, emphasizing simple mindful movement. For those with ADHD or busy minds, these movements offer easy engagement, fostering a connection to their own bodies.

I share a variety of ways to implement these movements into activities. Know that the level of calm the activities provide also depends on the environment and your child's current ability to hold space for the activity.

For example, you probably won't create a sense of calm for your child as they do the Frankenstein pose while playing “The Monster Mash” at a Halloween party.

But at home, one-on-one may be the perfect atmosphere for mindful movement, creative sensory writing, and other calming activities.

Mindful Movement: Boosting Growth & Connection This Halloween

These mindful movements are created with intention and encourage the development of gross motor skills. Developing gross motor skills is essential to our kids' overall well-being.

As a certified mindful movement and somatic teacher, I'm passionate about the transformative power of being present, feeling every movement, and truly understanding the messages our bodies tell.

Teaching parents and kids to listen to what emotions, thoughts, and body sensations tell us helps us to find acceptance as an individual and equips us to regulate emotions. Through mindful movement, you're taking a meaningful step toward a deeper connection with yourself.

The movements are designed so that everyone can easily participate, even if they know nothing about yoga. You do not need a yoga mat or special props.

The easy Halloween yoga poses are a great way to foster connection and sprinkle in some fun this Halloween.

As always, all children are different; you know your child better than anyone. Although these movements are simple, you can modify them anytime to simplify or make them more complex to suit your experience.

11 Easy Halloween Yoga Poses for Mindful Movement

Though these mindful movements don't require special yoga props, your child may enjoy wearing their Halloween costume. If their chosen costume for this year isn't great for moving around, you could think of other costume ideas your child would enjoy.

Many of these movements start from the mountain pose. If yoga is already in your routine, you'll recognize foundational poses we're building from, such as corpse and child's pose.

1. Haunted House

Stand tall with arms at your sides and feet slightly apart, set firmly for balance. Envision yourself as a sturdy haunted house.

Raise your right arm, feeling it sweep away the cobwebs of mysterious hallways as it moves upward. As you raise your arm, breathe in deeply, feeling the air as it enters the nostrils. When your hand is over your head, exhale through your mouth.

Follow suit with your left arm until both join overhead, creating an “A” frame or triangle pose. Breathing normally, gently lower one arm followed by the other.

2. Tree

Place your left foot sturdy on the ground. Feel the cool floor beneath it. Then, set your right foot in a stance that provides balance, like a strong tree trunk. Stretch your arms upwards, making different shapes like the branches of a spooky tree.

As you sway side to side, feel the gentle stretch in your sides, imagining the wind blowing on Halloween night.

 3. Spooky Cat Flow

Have you ever watched a cat stretching, especially after a lazy afternoon nap? Their graceful and intuitive movements inspired our Spooky Cat Yoga Flow. It's such a sweet and gentle way to encourage mindfulness and body awareness. Meow with a cat nap stretch or hiss like an angry cat with an arched back.

You decide!

 4. Little Pumpkin

Sit back on your heels, stretching your arms out in front or wrapping your arms around your knees. Feel the gentle stretch on your back. Imagine being a little pumpkin resting in the middle of a pumpkin patch.

You can add a gentle rocking if it feels comfortable.

5. Spider

Sit on your bottom with your knees bent. Place your hands on the floor behind your hips. As you lift your hips, feel the strength in your arms. Try to walk like a spider and feel your fingertips tingle as you move.

6. Ghost Breath

Lie flat on the floor. Close your eyes and take a deep breath. Feel the air fill your lungs and imagine being a quiet ghost floating. Let out a long oooooo! Notice the soft touch of the ground beneath you.

7. Frankenstein

We've elevated this experience by producing a YouTube video that provides clear guidance for your children as they engage in the Frankenstein Yoga Pose. This video is a fantastic resource to make the practice even more accessible and enjoyable.

8. Ghost

Stand upright. Take a step back with your right leg and bend your left knee. Extend arms sideways like a gliding ghost. Feel the balance challenge and engage your core to stabilize. Switch legs.

9. Scarecrow

Start by standing straight and tall. Extend arms out to either side. Feel the stretch across your chest. As you tilt your head to the right, notice the gentle pull on your neck as you watch the crows. Change sides and tilt your head to the left. Imagine the crows flying away. Whew! You did a good job saving the garden!

10. Witch

Stand tall with feet wide apart. As you bend your knees slightly and pretend to stir a cauldron with big circles, feel the gentle rotation in your wrists. Like a witch making her potion. Imagine the scent of the bubbling brew filling the air. What does it smell like?

11. Bat

Stand up straight, feet shoulder width. Imagine you're a bat ready to hang out in a cozy cave!

Slowly bend forward, trying to touch the ground with your hands. As you bend over, peek through your legs and see the world upside-down, just like a bat does. Take a big breath in and out, and feel like a cool bat, chilling and having fun!
